How To: Style Thrifted Trousers

Branded or not, trousers are a great staple to style an outfit around, and once you find that perfect pair, there are so many different outfits you can make out of that one piece! We want to make sure you’re getting the most out of your staple pieces, so there’s no need to keep buying items of clothing when you can make several looks out of the same few staples. Here are just a few ideas on how to build different outfits around a pair of trousers!

The Casual Look

Any pair of trousers can be made to look more casual, but a baggier pair is always going to give you a more street-style vibe, if that is what you’re going for. Putting a pair of trousers with some casual shoes, such as trainers, and a basic t-shirt makes for a really relaxed yet put together look. You can also add a blazer or shirt as an extra layer, again, a more oversized fit will give a more laid-back feel.

The Work Look

Styling a pair of trousers for a formal work setting is a really easy way of looking professional, but can also be really practical and comfortable. A slimmer fitting/ more tailored pair of trousers will look the smartest, however, paired with the right pieces a baggier pair can still look smart too. We recommend pairing your trousers with a slim fit cotton shirt and a fine-knit cotton jumper, making sure the shirt is tucked in. Cotton items are also great for different types of weather, it will keep you warmer when it’s cold but will also allow your skin to breathe if it’s warmer. A great pair of shoes to match with trousers for work are loafers, like everything we’ve recommended for this work look, they are very formal looking yet comfy and practical to wear for a long day in the office.

The Summer Wedding Look

Pastels and beiges are great colours to use when dressing for a summer wedding, they look the part along with being seasonal colours. In order to look your best but still be able to stay comfortable on a long hot day, we recommend a pair of chinos (beige or tan if possible) matched with a polo shirt. A polo shirt is a great way of dressing formally in hot weather, it’s basically the smarter equivalent to a t-shirt.  Depending on how formal the wedding is, you can also add a blazer. There are linen-blend blazers available which will also be more suitable for the hotter weather.
